From Bricks to Clicks…and back to Bricks! Ecommerce matures to physical stores…

Greetings from a soggy Saturday in Fort Lauderdale !

Something very interesting is happening the the “On-Line” stores recently and the trend is rapidly growing….

The On-Line retailers obviously to the brick and mortar stores to the web……and now the “web” is bringing them

back to physical retail operations!  Who Knew?   I just finished reading about this new trend in AdAge Digital!  A very interesting trend in the e-commerce industry…..and one that has been greatly “un-reported”!

When Warby Parker founder Niel B. wrote the business plan for  what is now one of the hottest e-commerce companies,  there was not any mention of physical stores.  But just two days into their launch in 2010 they were added….yes…48 hours into the business launch !  They were buried with requests for their popular “in home try-on” program.  Suddenly they realized that they needed some central location for many people to see, fell and touch their products…and yes…try them on….and shipping each single item to and from was proving overwhelming.  Solon they added “Pop up” stores, mobile truck stores and then yes…physicial brick and mortar locations.  The showrooms have proven tremendously successful.

This is no longer an unusual story anymore….Gap owned Piperlime …Bonobo’s Gide Shops have both added showrooms…and never intended to do so…..they are doing it because it is simply a “better customer experience” …. and most recently in a real surprise…the daily deal company “Living Social” has opened their first store with more planned in the future!

What they have all figured out is that the customer prefers  ( their first purchase specifically ) in a hands on, feel and touch ( or try-on ) enviroment…then they are more comfortable with the “re-orders” on-line.

Go figure…Customers PREFER a physical experience !  As Euby has evangelized for years….Sales is a RELATIONSHIP business…and being there in person is a much greater relationship experience than digital!   E-Commerce can complement the experience but it cannot replace it!

So the brick and mortar companies can complement their efforts with their on-line offers….and now we know of course that the “On Line Retailers” can complement their e-commerce business with a physical store.   From Bricks to Clicks and now back to Bricks !

Impact of Direct Mail in Gaining NEW DONORS for Charitable Organizations

Good Wednesday morning everyone !

I have just returned from a “Family Reunion” ( with little business mixed in ) long weewkend in SC and PA.  Great time…great weather…great food and outstanding company !

Now back to the real world of business and productivity…..and based on the report I just read on thePSDA blog ( by John Delavan ) Direct Mail is STILL the king in Charitable

Organizatoins when looking for new donors….here are a few interesting stats….

People are THREE TIMES more likely to donate after being contacted by direct mail than by “email”.  Of the people in the suvey that were contacted after giving…17% had responded to Direct Mail and only 5% from Emails !

Donors 40 to 59 were the most responsive to Direct Mail….as 47% responde to the direct mail piece in 2012 …up 34% over 2010.  Donors over 60 also responded well to the direct mail application in 2012  …24% of them responded

and that was up over 6% since 2010.

Even the research company who did the survery was quite surprised….Rick Dunham CEO fo Dunham and company described the stats as a “bit of a shock” !

I am not sure why he was so surprised…it really falls right into line as far as the “Cross Media Sales Approach” is concerned !   The “email” part actaully enhanced the effect of the “direct mail campaign” by building awareness and credibility

for the direct mail application when it was received.  They actaullly compliment each other quite well…..

As I have mentioned many times…we all need to be aware of the various medias required to “reach” your full potential in any campaign.  We all receive our information differently, and as such, we must “touch” the prospects several times

and in several ways to insure full penetration into the prospective market place.  Keep this in mind when you go to market…..you need to take several “approaches” to insure success!

ScanLife Trending Shows Mobile Barcode Scans surpassed 16 Million in Q2 !

Wow…that is a BIG number!  It appears those that pronounced the “QR Code” era over were a  little “pre-mature” with their forecasts!

According to ScanLife …trending shows that “mobile bar code” scans SURPASSED the 16 million mark in Quarter 2 !  A 35% growth from

Quarter 1 globally !

The “ScanLife” app has surpassed the 20 Million download mark also ..with June producing the highest ever monthly scans !  This pushes

the numbers past the mark of “early adaptor users” and into the “main stream users” arena !

This data was culled from the ScanLife Reporting Platform and represents a wide-angle look at the entire market.  The 2 D bar code

scanning traffic, like the QR Codes,  may originate with ScanLife of other third-party apps !

Visa and Mastercard Major Security Breach

Visa and Mastercard are investigating a large data security breach at one of the main companies that processes transactions for them.  Global Payments, an Atlanta based company improperly exposed private customer information on an estimated 1 to 3 MILLION clients.  This does not mean that those cards WILL be used fraudulently, but they COULD be.  Unfortunately Global Payments has not responded very rapidly to the inquires and investigations by Visa and Mastercard so the banks affected have not been given the information to notify the clients and replace the cards as yet.  As a result everyone with a Visa or Mastercard should watch their accounts a little more closely and frequently over the next few weeks until this mess is cleaned up.  The breach occurred from late January to early February and included Track 1 and 2 data…..that includes Names, Card Numbers, Validation codes and in some cases card users address.   This is the second breach at Global in the last 12 months…and their stock is taking a beating as a result.  Hopefully this will not affect you …but be cautious.    Euby
